Como parte das comemorações, o prefeito Lázaro Roberto da Silva inaugurou o Marco Vital Brazil, na entrada do município, onde ficará a estátua do cientista. Na ocasião, foi apresentado o protótipo da estátua pela artista Sandra Guinle, com a presença do Presidente do Instituto Vital Brazil, Antônio Joaquim Werneck de Castro; do Vice-Presidente do Instituto, Luís Eduardo Ribeiro da Cunha; do Presidente da Casa de Vital Brazil e neto do cientista, Érico Vital Brazil, e outras autoridades.
